Workshop in Media Lab, Municipal Library of Ilioupoli

For 3 days during the Christmas Holidays a group of teenagers gathered in the Media Lab of Ilioupoli Library in Athens with the aim to approach the topic of hate speech using audiovisual tools. The group looked at the different forms of hate speech and discussed the causes while at the same time they learned about the basic principles of photography and video and the way these are used in social media. They wondered and debated on questions such as ‘who produced this?’, ‘is there a scope for this production?’ ,’is there a hidden message?’ ,’is this the whole picture?’, etc. They explored the theme of diversity by completing several activities with their mobile devices and then each participant produced a logo that communicated his/her own unique identity. Finally, they produced and edited their own video on the theme of stereotypes.
