“Portrait day” is a glimpse on a special event which aimed to introduce learning, play and new relationships through photography inside a refugee camp in Greece. A process which brought together youngsters, boys and girls, and adults for some creative collaborative and memorable moments.
These are the words of Maria Leonida, who realized the project:
“My aim was to combine the art of documentary narration with my work in media literacy. In particular, to portray the delicate processes of learning and experimenting with the lens while experiencing with all the participants, collaborative moments and instances of social cohesion, that break stereotypes. The 3 month photography workshop was an empowering and joyful process for the teenagers. While offering their services to the other residents created some magical moments, a sense of community and dignity for all the families that shared this experience with us.”
